General Bajwa visit to America: Farewell visit or attempt to improve relations?
Qamar Javed Bajwa is returning home today after a five-day visit to America. During the visit, the Army Chief also had an informal talk with the participants during a lunch at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC on Wednesday.
According to a news shared by the Public Relations
Department of the Pakistan Army, the Army Chief said that he will
retire on completion of his tenure in November.Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, while answering a question regarding the appointment of the Army Chief during a press conference, said that no decision has been taken yet. Five officers are
named but there are also instances where none of the five names are mentioned. My own impression is that all three-star generals are eligible for this appointment.
Some observers are calling this visit of the Army Chief as his farewell visit, while others think that it will be too early to say anything about it.The Army Chief's visit is also being discussed on social media. The news also circulated that ISI chief Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum and Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt. Gen. Azhar Abbas also went to America with him. It should be remembered that Lt. Gen. Azhar Abbas is one of the senior candidates for the position of the next Army ChiefHowever, speaking to the BBC, military officials completely denied the reports that these two officers were part of the visit
